La Güera was a name given to me by my husbands family. It's pronounced "weda", not with a hard "G" just in case it matters to you. ;) There are many translations and interpretations of the word, but in most cases it means "blondie" "white girl" or just "fair skinned". I was raised in a small farming town in California where the population was approximately 70% Hispanic. I think the Mexican culture is beautiful and enjoy educating my children in their Mexican heritage. Part of that is learning to prepare the amazing dishes of Mexico. My husband (who is Mexican-American) comes from a family of cooks, and I have enjoyed learning from them all. I have found one thing to be true: Mexican food is the cheapest way to feed your family wholesome meals. It is also incredibly simple, and the most intimidating dishes are sometimes the easiest. Join me as I attempt to spread the beauty of Mexican cooking, and help to prove that you can make it too!
